Introduce the letter d.
TELL YOUR STUDENT! The letter d will be introduced in this lesson.
Your student might get confused if you don’t inform him that the letter d is being introduced in this lesson. We tell our students to consider d the “new” or “different” letter (“it is not the same as the letter b”). Every word in Lesson 10 is spelled with at least one d. Inform your student that both b and d appear in five of the words in this lesson.
I LEARN the letter d paired with |ă|, as in ad.
II LEARN the letter d paired with |ĭ|, as in hid.
III LEARN the letter d paired with |ŏ|, as in odd.
IV LEARN the letter d paired with |ŭ|, as in mud.
V LEARN the letter d paired with |ĕ|, as in red.
Over the next few lessons we will practice the consonants b and d. If your student is still confused by b and d, take time to review the words at Roman numeral VI of Lesson 9 until he is proficient. For additional practice, also review Lessons 1 – 8, as they feature many words that contain a b. When you see that your student is handling words with b and words with d on an individual basis successfully, then it’s time to mix it up and alternate between words containing b and d.
