Lesson 11

Instructions for Lesson 11

Review the pronunciation and spelling pattern for the letter d.

Know the Meaning of the Words

Does your student know the meaning of words like dell, dill, and den? Encourage him to ask you about unfamiliar words. Comprehension is an essential part of becoming an authentic reader. Take time to explain the difference, for example, between ad and add. By using the dictionary often with your student, you will reinforce the concept that when it comes to words, dictionaries have all the answers.

Note: Some of the words in column number 5 include both the letters b and d, as in bed. The words in the last row are all proper names, as in Deb. Be sure that your student spells these proper names with a capital letter.
